Proceeds support New Mom's programming for the young mothers
Soy wax body
Who made this product? The mug was made by artisans in Cameroon employed by Prescraft. Potters in the village of Bamessing sculpt each earthenware piece on a wheel, trim it by hand, and glaze and fire the final products in woodburning kilns. These mugs are then shipped to Chicago and were given to Bright Endeavors who employ New Mom's participants in a 13 week workforce development to create them into candles. Young mothers from 13 years to 26 years with children under 5 years old who have experienced extreme poverty and/or homelessness participate in New Mom's programming. These young moms transform into strong women from the empowerment Bright Endeavors on-the-job training equips them with for future employment in their professional career.
Why is it ethical? The mug is crafted by Prescraft who is committed to ecological and economic justice, and runs a reforestation program with local farms, provides opportunities for professional development, and actively works to create jobs in rural villages, minimizing the need for villagers to leave their families and migrate to urban areas to find work.Candle creation from New Mom's caters to first time moms who come from a struggling background. They provide housing, counseling, and job training to set them up for a successful life professionally and personally. After completing an intensive 5 weeks in the classroom, participants complete 8-week paid continuous training with their social enterprise, Bright Endeavors. By participating in New Mom's programming "these young women awaken their self-worth, dreams, potential, and goals. A young mom realizes that she has the power to write her story and open doors for her child. And no one can stop her." - New Mom's
